Target: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

We already brought you part one of our list of 15 things you probably did not know about Target, and now we’re back with part two! Check out eight more fascinating facts about the popular discount retailer that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!

Number Eight: Their Pharmacies Are Owned by CVS. Though the company used to own its own pharmacies, CVS bought them from Target in 2015. Though it may seem counterintuitive for a successful business to sell its pharmacies like that, Target did it to save money after their plans to expand in Canada failed.

Number Seven: They Have an Interesting Connection to the Washington Monument. In fact, Target helped repair it! In 1997, the company donated $1 million to help repair the Washington Monument.

Number Six: They Had a Color Controversy. One shopper became exceedingly frustrated with the company when she noticed that all sizes of a gray shirt were listed as “dark heather gray” except for the plus-size shirt, which was listed as “manatee gray.”

Number Five: They Helped Make Shopping More Comfortable. If you use a cart to shop, you have Target to thank for your comfort. In 2006, the company remodeled the traditional shopping cart to be around 15 to 20 pounds lighter, and it’s made of plastic instead of steel.

Number Four: Its Canine Mascot Flies First Class. What a lucky dog! Target’s iconic mascot – the white dog with a bullseye over its eye – flies first class when she travels.

Number Three: Their Price Tags Reveal the Percentage Markdowns. If you look at the lower left of Target’s price tags, you’ll notice the original price. Look to the upper right-hand corner to find the percentage markdown for the new price.

Number Two: There’s a Trick to Figure Out if an Item Will Be Marked Down Further. In fact, if the price of an item ends in $0.06 or $0.08, it will almost certainly be marked down again. If the price ends in $0.04, it won’t be marked down again.

Number One: If They Don’t Have What You Want, Try Goodwill. Seriously! The company often donates items that don’t sell – despite being put on clearance – to Goodwill. If you’re lucky, you can find some brand-new, high quality items at a fraction of the price. We hope you enjoyed our list of 15 things you didn’t know about Target!
