Starcraft: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

Starcraft is a hugely popular game that is one of the games which has, throughout history, most effected the video game industry. Despite this, there are a good number of things that people don’t know about the game, and here are some of them. Stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: It’s a National Sport

Well, it in least one country. Starcraft is one of the only games in the world that has become a self-proclaimed national sport of sorts. South Korea holds tournaments yearly, and it’s a big deal.

Number Fourteen: Starcraft Saved Blizzard

Blizzard’s publishing and releasing of Starcraft is the only reason why World of Warcraft is able to be in existence. The reason behind this is that the company was in financial duress at the time, and Starcraft helped them out of that situation.

Number Thirteen: Players Can Do a Lot of Actions

Starcraft professionals – and yes, they exist – do an average of more than 300 actions every single minute. In simple terms, this means that the best players can do quite a lot in the game in just 60 seconds of play, which is pretty insane.

Number Twelve: It’s Revolutionary

The game, which came out in 1998, was revolutionary for the time. Before this game existed, there weren’t really any real-time strategy games that worked in quite the advanced way that Starcraft had. Ever since, games used similar models that would not have existed if it weren’t for the game.

Number Eleven: Cloaked Unit Visibility Changes

Starcraft II, in comparison to Starcraft I, isn’t that different, but there are some changes that are things not every player would notice. One thing that is different is the fact that overlords could see cloaked units in the first game, but not the second one, which is interesting. It definitely makes it harder in this sense.

Number Ten: Abandoned Ship Ideas Are In-Game

Starcraft II made a lot of visible changes from the first game, one of them being different ship prototypes. The models which didn’t make the cut can be seen throughout the game in the form of ships which physically look abandoned, which is pretty amusing.

Number Nine: Clicking Can Cause a Nuclear Explosion

Something funny which the game makers integrated in the game is the ability to make nuclear explosions happen… by clicking the mouse? Well, its true. If a player clicks an animal one too many times, it literally causes a nuclear explosion to happen in the game.

There is a lot more to this game than people know. Stay tuned for the second part of the article, which is coming soon!
