Ready for a vacation? How about a vacation to one of the world’ s creepiest places? Well, you’re in luck! We’ve compiled a list of vacations that only the most adventurous of thrill-seekers should explore. Check it out if you dare!
Number Ten: North Yungas Road – Bolivia. Also known as “Death Road,” North Yungas Road in Bolivia is the world’s most dangerous road. The road goes between La Paz, Bolivia’s capital, to the town of Corioco. Be careful while you’re driving, or you could fall a short 600 meters to your death. Crosses are strewn along the road to signify people who have died there.
Number Nine: Pripyat – Ukraine. Abandoned after the Chernobyl disaster, Pripyat is a ghost town in Ukraine. Many things were left as is and have become eerily dilapidated, like this schoolhouse. Visitors have attempted to make the town even scarier, by pulling stunts like the one above – or maybe a ghost did it?
Number Eight: Edinburgh Castle – Scotland. From the appearance alone, it’s easy to guess why Edinburgh Castle is so creepy. An alleged phantom piper haunts the castle, as well as a headless drummer and a spooky dog. So many people have spotted ghosts in this castle that it leaves us wondering if maybe they are real, after all.
Number Seven: The Catacombs – France. The Catacombs in Paris are an incredibly popular tourist destination, but explore at your own risk. They twist and wind in ways that make it insanely easy to get lost, so you better hope your internal compass is good!
Number Six: Aokigahara Forest – Japan. This spooky forest has been blamed for numerous suicides in Japan. Located at the base of Mount Fuji, it is the second most popular place in the world for people to commit suicide (the first is the Golden Gate Bridge).
Number Five: The Hill of Crosses – Lithuania. Lithuania’s Hill of Crosses is exactly that – a hill with hundreds of thousands of crosses. Created in the 1830s, the hill was established as a peaceful place, but it has ended up looking creepy and off-putting instead.
Number Four: Tower of London – England. The Tower of London is well-known for the famous ghosts that haunt it. Some such souls include Thomas Becket, Richard of Shrewsbury and Edward V, who were both murdered within the tower’s walls.
Number Three: Hashima Island – Japan. Abandoned in the 1960s, Hashima Island is known as “Ghost Island,” because there’s nobody there. Or is there?
Number Two: The Island of the Dolls – Mexico. Yes, this is a real place. The dolls began appearing in this portion of Mexico City after a man discovered a dead girl and began collecting dolls and doll parts. He hung the dolls in the forest as a way to ward off devilish spirits, but it looks like it may do a better job of attracting them.
Number One: Pluckley, Kent – England. This small village in Kent, England may look idyllic, but in reality it is anything but. Many people know Pluckley as the most haunted village in Britain, and the village attracts dozens of tourists each Halloween. One of the scariest parts of the town are the Screaming Woods, where it is rumored you can still hear the screams of dying people at night.
