Today I am featuring the beautiful, historic Washington School House in Park City, Utah. This 1889 limestone building has been lovingly brought back to life as a luxurious boutique hotel.

It was originally built as an elementary school and functioned as such until enrollment declined during the Great Depression and the building was sold in 1936.

It then became the local meeting place for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In 1984 the building was again sold and renovated to become a bed and breakfast. The Washington School House recently underwent a more extensive renovation in 2011 and reopened as a luxury hotel.

Have a look inside this elegant school-turned-hotel…

Although it was essentially gutted in the recent renovation, the building maintains a good dose of old-time character in elements like the tall sash windows and high ceilings.

Each corner has been thoughtfully decorated in a calming, classical style…

The white walls are a perfect contrast to the rustic, dark reclaimed barn-wood floors.

School may be out forever at the Washington School House, but you’ll find nothing but year-round relaxation here…

The renovation of the school created space for 12 guest suites – each with its own unique touches.

The delightful decor features many gorgeous antique pieces combined with clean modern lines…

The hotel also has a chic fireside ski lounge and an outdoor heated pool and spa for a relaxing dunk after a hard day on the slopes.

A unique item at the former school house is the outdoor fire pit which is acutally a steel Olympic torch from the 2002 Winter Olympics Games. I love the mix of new and old history here!
