Rezoned and repurposed: converted 1926 highschool for sale

You’ve seen those little old one or two-room school houses converted and rehabbed into cozy homes.

But how about an entire highschool to live in! Complete with your own gymnasium!!!

This place is awesome!

Located in Neponset, Illinois, this building measures in at 13,000 [that’s 13 THOUSAND] square feet situated on over 2 acres of land and is FOR SALE for the phenomenal price of $155,000!

The property taxes in 2010 were all of $240! (what!?!?!)

Now there’s not much that could get me to move from Colorado, but this may be the place!

My kids would go crazy over the gym:

And I’m crazy about the historic space converted into living space!

All those high ceilings and huge windows! Hickory cabinets in the MASSIVE kitchen! Amazing!

Here’s the large living room which is open to the kitchen:

This historic highschool dates back to 1926 but functioned as a school as recently as the late 1990’s. So it has not suffered decades of decline and neglect like many of these old buildings do before being rescued and restored.

Just look at this old built-in bookshelf in one of the many possible bedrooms:

And the original decorative tin ceilings…

Are those old blackboards on the walls!?!?

This place is amazing (did I already use that word?) I can’t help it. Words don’t do this place justice – especially at THAT price!

Check out all the light and space in this old study hall with gleaming wood floors:

Okay, housecrazy Sarah is ready to pack her bags!

Beadboard in the minty-green bathroom! Love it!

All appliances are included…

Outside, “Enjoy the old football field area or put up a net in the blacktop tennis court spot” – per the seller.

Talk about a kid-friendly place! You really can’t get anymore kid-friendly than a former school.

Well… there’s always the issue of asbestos in old buildings… but wait, “There is NO KNOWN asbestos left in the building.

That’s great news! I’ll take it!

It looks like the owners have done a magnificent job. What a gem!

You can check out the complete listing here while I go and do some research about moving to Illinois!
