This cool historic building was once part of a brewery but now is used as a private residence. The home features one heck of a beer – er, wine – cellar… but we’ll get to that in a minute.

Located in the historic downtown of Stillwater Minnesota (“The birthplace of Minnesota”), this multi-use building has only one bedroom at present time. But it does feature over 1700 square feet of usable space on three stories.

The Stone House, as it is locally known, was built around 1860 as part of the Joseph Wolf Brewery. It is currently listed for sale at $575,000.

Renovated in 2005, this stone beauty makes a perfect bachelor pad…

…low maintenance on the outside…

Look how thick these walls are (solid stone underneath the drywall!)…

Here’s the kitchen:

And a downstairs workshop for the “handy dude or dudette” (I actually saw those words used in a listing not too long ago)…

But the main conversation piece in this house is the original underground brewery tunnel – “a perfect wine cellar” the realtor says:

Creepy! (In a catacomb-ish type of way)

And up from the subterranean depths to the rooftop to take in those cold Minnesota winter days…. you can lounge on the rooftop terrace with a stellar view of the frozen St. Croix River:

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…………………

(I bet it’s much nicer in the summertime!)

As part of a former brewery, I wonder if the smell of beer still permeates those old stone walls?

[A brief aside… I used to live just down the street from Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado and when the wind blew the right way, the stench of hops was absolutely SICKENING!]
