Panda Express: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

We already brought you part one of our list of 15 things you probably did not know about Panda Express,¬†and now we’re back with part two! Check out eight more fascinating facts about the popular fast food chain that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!

Number Eight: Its Menu Isn’t as Greasy as it Used to Be

Though Panda Express is, yes, a fast food chain, its menu is actually getting healthier! Nothing on the menu contains MSG and some locations even have a tea bar.

Number Seven: The Most Lucrative Panda Express Is in Hawaii

Most people might not think of people in Hawaii as huge consumers of Chinese food, but Panda Express executives would beg to differ. A Hawaiian food court in Honolulu has the most successful location of all.

Number Six: It’s Given Nearly $50 Million to Charity

It’s true! The chain might be making a profit, but it’s certainly giving back as well. The company operates something called Panda Cares, which is an organization that raises money for disaster relief and hospitals.

Number Five: The Founders Have Football to Thank for the Chain’s Expansion

While it was still operating as Panda Inn in California, co-founder Andrew Cherng became friends with then-head football coach of UCLA, Terry Donahue. Donahue’s brother was in the real estate business and was able to connect Cherng¬†with a food court where they installed the very first Panda Express.

Number Four: You Can Have Panda Express in Mexico

It’s true! There are locations in both Mexico and Canada, and as we previously mentioned, Hawaii. There are also locations in Japan and Korea.

Number Three: All of the Restaurant’s Music Is Provided by Trusonic

The Asian-themed music you hear in every single location is provided by Trusonic. Trusonic is a company that provides background music for many businesses.

Number Two: It Doesn’t Sell Anything Over 600 Calories

And there are only a couple things on the menu over 500 calories! The most caloric item on the menu is the fried rice, which clocks in at 520 calories.

Number One: Its Founders Are Billionaires

Though the chain doesn’t have the most sterling reputation, there’s no arguing that it’s successful. Co-founder Andrew Cherng currently has a net worth of $3.3 billion. We hope you enjoyed our list of 15 things you didn’t know about Panda Express!
