Mussolini: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

Mussolini was one of the most feared and respected men in the 20th century. Not many more men have made such an impact on the world. Here are some facts about the leader that many people don’t know. Stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: He Stabbed a Schoolmate

Mussolini never had the disposition to be nonviolent, as it seems. When he was just a boy, he had to get expelled twice for stabbing a schoolmate with his penknife. Yikes!

Number Fourteen: His Famous Car Sold for a Lot

Mussolini has been seen a number of times riding his 1939 Alfa Romeo, and it’s been recently sold for a lot of cash: the amount was 3 million dollars. Can you imagine what it would be like to own such a car?

Number Thirteen: He Wrote on the Side

Mussolini wasn’t just a dictator, it also seems as if he had a writer side to him as well. One of them includes a romance novel he wrote about his mistress, Rachele Guidi.

Number Twelve: He Wasn’t Anti-Semite

Despite working intrinsically with Hitler, Mussolini wasn’t an anti-Semite. He didn’t believe that someone’s race could make them inferior or superior.

Number Eleven: His Socialism Got Him in Trouble

The leader got into trouble a lot in his lifetime, and if often had to do with his socialism. Once, he was arrested for trying to lead a socialistic strike that wasn’t well received by fascists.

Number Ten: Gandhi Spoke Highly of Mussolini

Ironically enough, Gandhi thought Mussolini was awesome, once upon a time. In fact, he had praised him for being “one of the great statesmen of our time”, which is pretty crazy.

Number Nine: His Bronze Bust Became Junk

Many sort-of-crazy leaders back in the day (as well as now) seemed to have big egos, which is why Mussolini had a bronze bust in the first place. It, however, was captured by American sailors, who then put it in a junkyard. It’s pretty much crushed now. Mussolini is an intriguing dictator with an amazing history. Stay tuned for the second part of the article, which is coming soon!
