I first spotted this amazing house near Cape Cod Massachusetts on the Curbed website’s ‘how much do you think it’s worth’ feature.

The response was luke-warm so I’m left scratching my head. I’ve never gone house-hunting in Cape Cod Massachusetts, but this place gives me the tingles! (In a good way)

Mon Bijou – translates to “my jewel”.  And what a perfect name for this sweetheart of-a-house.

The realtor uses this flowery introduction in the listing blurb:

Mon Bijou – as inscribed at the entrance of this fabulous Gingerbread Gem exactly describes this property; a small, exquisitely wrought trinket.

Our little jewel-of-the-day is currently listed for sale at $549,000. It has 4 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms in a cozy 1,050 square feet.

The style of this cottage is known as carpenter Gothic or Gothic gingerbread.

Would you be surprised if I told you this house was in a planned community? Here’s what the listing describes:

Located in the Copeland District, a planned community designed in 1871 by the Oak Bluffs Land and Wharf Company, it was built in 1871 in the style of Gothic architect, Richard Carpenter.

Whoever owns this house has taken the gingerbread sea-side cottage theme and really ran with it…

It’s small but it is just so sweet.

The white washed walls, the vintage trinkets… it’s all so perfect.

Fun and whimsy abound in this so-cute-I-can-barely-stand-it house…

The bedrooms are the crème de la crème

Gothic arched screen doors opening to a tiny balcony:

The decorating is about as close to perfection as I have ever seen…

I love the exposed rafters and white-washed board walls, but I wonder (it being located in Massachusetts) if the house is winterized?

With no insulation, this may be a summertime-only cottage.

So is $549,000 a little much to pay for a barely 1000 square foot seasonal cottage? Maybe.

Still, charm and loveliness overflow from this petite maison

How can you not fall in love with this chérie?

Okay, okay, I’ll stop the gushing.
