Meryl Streep: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

Recently, we brought you part one of this list of fascinating facts about Meryl Streep, a well known (and that is an understatement) actress who has been a part of Hollywood for over 40 years now. Here is part two of our list.

Number Eight: She’s a Star because She Slept Through her Alarm

Meryl originally wanted to be a lawyer and was applying to go to law school. On the morning of her interview, she slept through her alarm clock and ended up taking this as a sign that she was meant for other things. It sounds like the sign was correct!

Number Seven: Meryl Streep Almost Turned Down the Role of Margaret Thatcher

This was due to having big political differences and disliking the former Prime Minister. She didn’t want to represent someone who was on the opposite end of what she believes in politically. Something must have changed her mind later on.

Number Six: She Learned Violin for a Role

I have tried to learn violin, and I can attest to how impressive this is. She practiced for six hours every day for over two months for the lead of the filmĀ The Music of the Heart. She beat out Madonna for this role.

Number Five: Classical Music Inspires Her

Streep often listens to music to help her get into character. Classical is her favorite genre to go to for inspiration and calming her mind.

Number Four: Meryl And her Daughter

In the 2007 filmĀ Evening, Meryl Streep and her daughter Mamie Gummer shared the same role. These two played the younger and older versions of the same character.

Number Three: Meryl Streep Day

Did you know that the actress actually has her own day? May 27th was officially made Meryl Streep Day in New York back in 2004.

Number Two: She Was a Talented Waitress

She bragged once that in her youth, she could wait eight tables at the same time. It sounds as though she is good at nearly everything she does.

Number One: She Donates to Charity

Some of her favorites to donate to are Equality Now and Broadway Cares, though she has donated to dozens more over the course of her career. We hope you enjoyed part two of our list of Meryl Streep facts.
