Little UK round houses

For this week’s cuteness quotient I am featuring some delightfully round little houses across the big pond. The United Kingdom is one of those magical lands from which fairy tales originate. So it’s little wonder that the UK is home to some of the most adorable round houses on the planet, like the one above located in an Ecovillage in Findhorn, Scotland.

But don’t be fooled by the modern construction of the barrel house above. Round houses are not a recent phenomena in the UK. In fact, most of the round houses I found were historic – 18th century or earlier.

Have a look:

This thatched roof dwelling is an 18th century brick “Gothic folly” located in Little Thetford, near Cambridgeshire. (What I wouldn’t give to have a cuppa tea inside this darling munchkin house!)

Next up is a holy house – one of a collection of round houses built a couple of centuries ago by a Vicar in the village of Veryan near Cornwall, UK:

Local legend describes how the superstitious Vicar built these houses in-the-round so that there would be no corners for the Devil to hide in…

Mission accomplished – aren’t they angelic?

Here’s another sweet round house in the village of Cowes, on the Isle of Wight:

Gingerbread is not the only feature that sets this round house apart. If you look closely, you can see that the front porch supports are actually tree trunks! Very Hansel and Gretel.

The round house (below) near Seaton, England also has some rustic log porch pillars, but they are a lot straighter:

Simply adorable!

Like these cute curvaceous dwellings?
