Jean Reno: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

Jean Reno has proved to be one of the most talented actors of his generation—a naturally gifted actor who is able to take any kind of role and make a superb performance out of it. Here are seven more interesting facts about the French star!

Number Seven: He’s Not Into Writing

He has been asked a few times if he would be interesting in writing and directing his own movies eventually. Reno has actually directed a short movie and wrote a staged play, but he just didn’t love the experiences. Acting is what he’s really passionate about.

Number Six: The Camel Is His Spirit Animal

Reno identifies with a camel because, he says, life moves slowly (like a camel) and the landscape is constantly changing. “I don’t know why, but for me it is evident that, inside me, I am a camel.”

Number Five: He’s a Skilled Diver

Reno took diving lessons for a year and a half to prepare for his role in The Big Blue. One of the most challenging things about the role was having to hold his breath for several minutes for Besson to shoot the perfect underwater sequence. Once the movie was released, Reno would often go free diving to see sharks when on vacation.

Number Four: He’s a Closet Drummer

Reno loves listening to music, whether it be jazz or classical, although it’s ‘70s rock what he enjoys the most. He plays the guitar, the piano, and the drums.

Number Three: ‘Reserve Jean Reno Olive Oil’

Reno’s Spanish roots show through his passion for olive oil. He has his own line of extra virgin olive oil, which he produces, in short quantities, in the South of France.

Number Two: He’s Used to Playing Brutes

Reno is a very big guy. He’s 6’3″ and used to be much wider. Once he moved to France to pursue an acting career, all he got offered were big, violent, thug roles!

Number One: Jean Reno and Sean Bean Didn’t Get Along

Both actors were together in John Frankenheimer’s Ronin. Reno has really fond memories of Robert De Niro, whom he describes as a really shy and quiet person, but didn’t quite enjoyed working with Sean Bean, whom he has described as a really mean person on set.
