What a treat it was to come across Guthrie McBane – an 1830’s grist mill converted into a beautiful home with a 1920’s guest cabin in Snow Camp, North Carolina.

The main house is a stunning preservation of grist mill history, and the 5 acres it comes on – complete with river and dam – are just about as close to heaven as you can get without entering the pearly gates.

And isn’t it a fabulous name?

Guthrie McBane. I think it would be a great throw-back name for a kid.

Guthrie McBane! You put that poor froggie down RIGHT NOW!

Before we have a look inside, have a peak at the 1920’s log cabin on the property that serves as a guest house:

Unfortunately, there are no interior photos of the guest cabin so let’s go back to the main attraction: the mill house.

Come on inside and see what they did with the place…

Yes, that is the original millstone!

The overall restoration was wonderful – the exposed beams, the mill mechanisms left intact. Look at some of the other details they preserved:

The mill was converted to a home in the 1980’s.

There may be a few 1980’s references, but the restoration effort was so timeless and masterfully done, you barely even notice the carpet.

In total, the renovated grist mill has 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.

Guthrie McBane is listed for $ 800,000, and from the photos, I think it would be worth every penny.

The listing agent posted a phenomenal video of the property – WATCH THIS VIDEO! And make sure the volume is turned up for some musical accompaniment.
