When I read that this house in Pasadena, California was on the market for the first time in over 100 years, I was intrigued. When I saw that there were then and now pictures, my eyes got googly!

It’s so amazing to see the difference 100 or so years can make, even though this house has been owned by the same family since 1909!

This published early arroyo chalet style home with Bavarian influences was designed by architect Timothy Walsh as his primary residence. Sold two years after construction, it has remained in the same family since 1909.

Obviously, this house has been maintained and updated throughout the decades (witness the freshly polished -and highly reflective – wood floors).

But apart from paint and polishing, many of the original elements remain in tact. Have a look at this exterior angle of the house:

Today the home remains nearly identical, with the exception of the enclosed upper porch:

Seeing the historic photos makes me gaga over this house … there’s just something about the continuity of time and space.

Anyhow, there are plenty of photos of the house’s most recent state to drool over as well:

Both the living room and dining room feature fireplaces…

Heck, it seems like nearly every room in the house has a fireplace:

Look at this tiny corner hearth:

So cute & cozy!

The kitchen looks like it was last tackled in the early 1980’s…

But what a great space to work with! (LOVE those copper pots the stager threw in there!)
