The world is filled with negativity and stories of people who were no good. But there are just as many great people who are willing to risk life and limb to help out another living thing. Gotland is a special and unique place. The large Swedish island is situated in the Baltic Sea. Seafaring life has shaped much of its culture. Cobblestone streets and a well-preserved medieval city wall mark its biggest town, Visby. Visby is also home to the grand, centuries-old St. Mary’s Cathedral and ruined medieval churches. Fishing boats and ferries dot the Baltic Sea, making the island important to the food supply and also a popular tourist destination.
