Circus animal abuse is, unfortunately, quite the common occurrence. Many people go to the circus because all they see are good and fun times. ThereĀ are quite a number of things that people don’t know about the circus, and here are some of them. Stay tuned for part two, which will be here soon.

Number Fifteen: Circus Animal Abuse Comes in Many Forms

Animal trainers use lots of tools in order to train their animals, and really none of them are kosher. They use muzzles, electric prods, bullhooks, whips and more, which are quite violent at times.

Number Fourteen: Tigers Fear of Fire

Many times, a circus trick will involve a tiger going through a ring of fire. These animals are especially fearful of this, but they are still forced to do so. They even get burned sometimes.

Number Thirteen: It’s Lead to Public Violence

There have been many cases in recent years of elephants rushing out of circus tents from the pain they’ve had to endure. It’s lead to civilian and handler killings.

Number Twelve: Care Standards Aren’t Met

While circuses are supposed to act under the care standards set by the AWA, they often violate them. Many times, even the minimum standards aren’t even met.

Number Eleven: It’s a Life in a Cage and Chains

Most of a circus animal’s life is spent in a cage and chains. Out of every moment that the animal is alive, only 4 percent of its life is somewhat free.

Number Ten: It’s Psychological

Circus animal abuse extends beyond the physical. Like any human, extensive time in a cage is psychologically damaging. The symptoms of these effects may be seen in the form of pacing or swaying, which is unfortunately common.

Number Nine: Lack of Exercise Leads to a Lack of Health

The abuse found in circuses leads to health issues in animals later on. Because they don’t exercise a lot and stand for long hours at a time, they often get arthritis and foot infections, which can lead to a long, painful death.
