Cancer: 6 Types You Didn’t Know About

Cancer is one of the most frightening occurrences imaginable, both for ourselves and our loved ones. There are some types that are unfortunately so common that everyone knows about them or knows someone who has suffered. The best way to remain cautious and aware of these problems is to be educated, so we’re going to tell you about some types of cancer you didn’t know about.

Number Six: Parotid Gland Cancer

The parotid glands are the biggest of the glands which create saliva. They are close to the jaw, just in front of your ears, one on each side of the face. Most tumors in this area are benign and nothing to worry about– the cells that make up the lump are not cancer cells. Only about a quarter (25%) of parotid lumps are cancerous.

Number Five: Adult Soft Tissue Sarcoma

Adult soft tissue sarcoma is a type of cancer that affects the soft tissues of the body (joint tissues, muscle, tendons, blood vessels, nerves and fat.) It can appear nearly anywhere inside the body, but most commonly comes up in the head, arms or legs, abdomen, and sometimes neck.

Number Four: Men’s Breast Cancer

Breast cancer in males is a very rare phenomenon, but it does happen. Typically this occurs in men over the age of 65, but it’s possible that it could occur in younger men. The most common symptoms are pain and swelling.

Number Three: Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a type of illness that affects the pleura, a double layer sac that covers each lung and lines the chest wall and diaphram. People who get this disease have worked or lived in places with asbestos. Luckily, this harmful substance has been outlawed in most places.

Number Two: Essential Thrombocythaemia

ET is a blood disorder that causes a high number of blood cells called platelets to be created. These are the blood cells typically involved in blood clots. Thrombo means clotting and cythaemia relates to blood cells, so this is quite dangerous, but rare.

Number One: Womb Cancer

This is the fourth most common cancer among females, yet there is very little awareness about it. We hope you learned a thing or two from our article, and thanks for reading.
