Number Fifteen: Boys Are More Likely To Get It

For some reason that scientists are yet able to figure out, autism tends to be found more in boys rather than girls. Some doctors are trying to find if this because of nature, of because of nurture.

Number Fourteen: Autism Has Its Pros

While living with this disability is nothing to undermine, there are some benefits to it. People with autism are able to get free public education due to the federal laws that are in place.

Number Thirteen: It’s More Common Than You Might Think

Although there are more people with autism than ever before, it still exists more than  one would think. In fact, it’s more common than all the people who have diabetes, AIDS, and childhood cancer combined. That is a lot of people!

Number Twelve: It May Be Attributed to High Mercury Levels

Some scientists have grown to think that autism has something to with high mercury levels. Well, this is at least what chelation therapy suggests, which works to remove mercury from the body as a treatment.

Number Eleven: It Affects Almost One Percent of All Children

One out of every 150 children is diagnosed with autism. This may not sound like much, but the numbers used to be much lower.

Number Ten: It Has a Correlation with Epilepsy

Strangely enough, there is a strong connection between epilepsy and the disorder. Is it turns out, about a quart of everyone who has autism has to deal with also having epilepsy when they become an adult.

Number Nine: Older Fathers Equals More Autistic Children

Since more and more people have autism these days, there has been a lot of studies done to understand why. As research suggests, there is a stronger chance that a child is to have this disability when their father is older. There is a lot more about this disorder that many people don’t know.
