Al Pacino is the actor everyone loves. His acting career has left us some of the most iconic movies ever made, such as Scarface, The Godfather and Heat. However, there probably are many things you still don’t know about him. Keep reading to find out 15 interesting facts about the American actor, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: He Was Charged with Attempted Robbery

On January 7th, 1961, a Rhode Island police patrol pulled over a suspicious car in the middle of the night. Inside the vehicle were three men wearing black clothes and masks, and a gun. All of them were charged with attempted robbery and were sent to jail for three days. One of these men was young Al Pacino. Charges were dropped after Pacino convincingly explained the police officers that they were all actors on their way to a play.

Number Fourteen: He Didn’t Want to Be in ‘The Godfather’

Pacino wanted no part in the gangster movie when casting negotiations were taking place. But not only that; no one in the team wanted him to be involved the movie either, except for director Francis Ford Coppola, who advocated for him at all costs.  The actor revealed that Coppola got tired of him eventually and almost fired him, threatening to open the second movie with Michael Corleone’s funeral. Marlon Brando stepped in and convinced everyone to keep him for all three movies.

Number Thirteen: He Got Kevin Spacey His First Major Role

Spacey began his acting career in the mid ’80s, but only got secondary roles in low budget productions and stage plays. Pacino saw him perform on a Broadway show in the early ‘90s and suggested him to director James Foley for his next movie, Glengarry Glen Ross, which Pacino was going to star in. Foley auditioned him and cast him right away.

Number Twelve: He Was Rejected from the Actors Studio

Al Pacino was never the academic type. He dropped out of school at 17 and moved to Manhattan to pursue an acting career. His first auditions didn’t go so well, and he was rejected from New York’s Actors Studio a few times. He finally got accepted in 1966, and became co-president of the association along with Harvey Keitel and Ellen Burstyn in 1994.

Number Eleven: He Inspired Moe’s Voice from ‘The Simpsons’

Hank Anzaria, reputated voice actor, was doing a play in which he based his voice on Pacino’s from Dog Day Afternoon. He showed up to The Simpsons’ audition and used the same voice, just a little lower and raspier. Matt Groening loved it and he got the part for Moe.

Number Ten: He Named Johnny Depp His Favorite Co-Star

Both celebrities co-starred in mob film Donnie Brasco and got along just great. Pacino has been quoted stating that Depp is the best co-star he has ever had. They often talk about each other on interviews and talk shows.

Number Nine: Al Pacino Started Out as a Stand Up Comedian

It’s hard to believe, since he has barely made 5 or 6 comedies out of all 54 productions he has starred in. However, Pacino did start out as stand-up comedian in New York’s 60’s theatrical scene. “Did you know I started out as a stand-up comic? People don’t believe me when I tell them.”

Number Eight: It Was His Idea to Film ‘Scarface’

The actor watched the original Scarface movie at a revival screening in Los Angeles and thought it would be a great idea to remake the movie for younger audiences. He approached producer Martin Bregman and convinced him to do it. They later got and Oliver Stone to write the script and Brian DePalma to direct it.
